Nature Moncton February MeetingNATURE MONCTON FEBRUARY MEETINGTuesday, February 15th, 2022 at 7:00 pm Virtual Meeting “New Brunswick’s Newest Avian Immigrant: The Wild Turkey” Presenter: Jim Wilson Never in our history has a new bird discovered our province on foot – until now. Slowly and quietly during the past two decades, hundreds of Wild Turkeys eluded border officials and slipped into New Brunswick from Maine, where a vibrant population of the birds is firmly established in all 16 counties. But how does a bird of this size, a species that was never here historically, cope with finding food in deep winter snow and cold, compete with native bird species and evade potential new predators? Well, Wild Turkeys are doing just that, and quite successfully. Our Wild Turkeys now number in the thousands. This talk will explain how they do it. About the presentation:
The Indigenous history and Legal history presentation explores the concepts of Indigenous Law and Aboriginal Laws, as well as Indigenous history in Canada, and their significance and impacts today. This presentation will look at the historical and legal background of Indigenous relationships with the British Crown, both, pre- and post-confederation. The Federal government created assimilative policies specific to dealing with the Indigenous peoples of Canada. We will look at the areas, including the creation of the Indian Act, Indian Residential Schools, Indian Day Schools, the 60s Scoop and the effect these assimilative policies have had and continue to have today on Indigenous people across Canada. |

Fighting for the Future: Youth Organizing for Climate Justice - Building Youth Power: Tactics to WinEn-ligne This February, join youth leaders in conversation with Dogwood staff about their organizing successes, along with hard-hitting political analysis on what it takes to win a better world for and as young people. These sessions are geared toward Canadian youth who want to organize for climate justice in their communities; and non-profit organizations that are looking to deepen their work with youth organizers. Each session will include critical analysis, real-world examples of success and failure, and time for Q&A. |
