Microplastics from Food and Water: State of the Science and Potential Impacts on Human Health

On December 8, 2021, the Food Forum will hold a meeting to review the state of the science and research gaps related to plastics and microplastics in food and water. Invited speakers will look at methods of detection and identification of microplastics in food and water, evaluating human health risks, and the policy and regulatory implications.

Aimez-vous les bleuetières, si oui, nous aussi. C’est pourquoi nous vous invitons le jeudi 9 décembre à 1 pm en ligne afin de découvrir l’industrie de bleuetière au NB et plus spécifiquement dans la péninsule acadienne avec nos différents panélistes. Nous parlerons du nouveau projet du gouvernement pour le Champ de tir à Tracadie-Sheila. Les informations qui ressortiront lors de nos discussions seront utilisées par la suite pour tester un outil qui a été développé par le Réseau environnemental du NB nommé le Calculateur (https://nben.ca/fr/gestion-des-risques-et-avantages.html). Le calculateur est un outil qui permet d’évaluer les avantages et les risques des projets de développement au Nouveau-Brunswick tout en intégrant les facteurs économiques, environnementaux et sociaux. L’activité aidera à intégrer différentes connaissances tout en encourageant un dialogue inclusif. Si comme nous, vous aimez découvrir des nouveaux outils et en apprendre plus sur l’actualité autour des bleuets alors nous vous invitons à vous inscrire. L’atelier se donnera uniquement en français.

Panel: Uranium and nuclear energy in New Brunswick and beyond

Background: Canada has 19 operational nuclear power reactors, one in New Brunswick at Point Lepreau on the Bay of Fundy and 18 in Ontario on two of the Great Lakes: Ontario and Huron. All nuclear power reactors require uranium, a heavy metal, or plutonium, a uranium derivative, as fuel. The Government of New Brunswick and the federal government are supporting the development of new nuclear reactors for Point Lepreau. These proposed reactors will also require uranium or plutonium as fuel.

Putting Maps on the Web: A Guide for Environmental & Conservation Organizations

Maps are powerful communication tools. Environmental and conservation organizations often use them to visualize both natural and artificial features, including property boundaries, topography, stewardship projects, hydrological boundaries, indicators of environmental change, capital assets, and hazardous areas. Recent advances in web-based cartography have allowed organizations to share information with the public and stakeholders in new and exciting ways.

Healthy Coasts Chaleur - Community Engagement Session

On December 11, Healthy Coasts NB will be hosting a community engagement session for the Chaleur region. Content will include an introduction to the Healthy Coasts program as well as a facilitated discussion on dunes and beaches.
