Mosses and Liverworts of Kingston Peninsula’s Moss Glen Nature Trail

Although often overlooked, bryophytes (mosses, liverworts and hornworts) play essential ecological roles in all of our province’s terrestrial and wetland habitats. This bryophyte-focused field trip will take us along the beautiful Moss Glen Nature Trail, which consists of a 2.2km loop traversing mature spruce-dominated forest and hardwood ridges (along the way, a short spur trail also provides access to the shore of Wetmore Lake). Areas along this aptly named trail showcase a good diversity of our province’s mosses and liverworts. Led by expert bryologist Bruce Bagnell, this outing will be a great learning experience, whether you are already well-acquainted with mosses or are just starting out in your exploration of non-vascular plants.
