About this event
Advocating for Nature
Nature Canada is hosting an exclusive workshop for nature and environmental groups. Hannah Dean, Director of Organizing at Nature Canada will facilitate a conversation with special guest, the legendary Alexandra Morton. Alexandra will talk about why advocacy is so important, some of her past successes and steps to ensure your advocacy event will be impactful, memorable and advance the goals of your organization.
About Alexandra:
Alexandra Morton moved to a remote archipelago on the BC coast in 1984 to study the acoustics of the northern resident orca. With the arrival of industrial salmon farms, Morton became yet another biologist at ground zero of ecological collapse. It took 34 years to remove the industry. In the process wild salmon collapsed to the verge of extinction. She published extensively on salmon farm sea lice and fish viruses, built a research station, took the industry to court, met with the company CEOs, engaged government and finally endured a 280-day occupation of the salmon farms over the winter of 2017. In 2021, Alexandra published the national best seller, Not on My Watch. Today Morton works with First Nation governments dedicated to restoring wild salmon. She is monitoring the impact that removing industrial aquaculture is having on wild salmon and herring and sharing insight on the power of the individual to protect life on earth.
This event will take place on Zoom and the link will be sent to you via email a couple days before the event takes place.
