About the presentation:
The Indigenous history and Legal history presentation explores the concepts of Indigenous Law and Aboriginal Laws, as well as Indigenous history in Canada, and their significance and impacts today. This presentation will look at the historical and legal background of Indigenous relationships with the British Crown, both, pre- and post-confederation.

The Federal government created assimilative policies specific to dealing with the Indigenous peoples of Canada. We will look at the areas, including the creation of the Indian Act, Indian Residential Schools, Indian Day Schools, the 60s Scoop and the effect these assimilative policies have had and continue to have today on Indigenous people across Canada.

Non-native earthworms in Canada: Entering the second wave of invasion Most of the earthworms that we have in Canada are relatively recent arrivals. Non-native earthworms are highly influential ecosystem engineers that fundamentally change the habitats that they invade. With no practical means of control, it is important to understand how earthworms spread, what they change when they arrive, and how we can learn to manage and live with these new invaded ecosystems.

Working for the Peskotomukati at Skutik, Todd Watts has spent much of the last few years searching the land for species at risk and areas of ecological significance. This work has taken place within the traditional territory of the First Nation, which includes the watersheds of the Skutik/St. Croix River, as well as the Digdeguash, Magagadavic, Pocologan, New and Lepreau Rivers.  Through this work, he has the opportunity to observe the state of the land in a way that few people do. Join Todd as he talks about this work and its findings.
