Join the Nature Trust for a book reading with Emily Johnson, author of Mitzy's First Time Picking Sweetgrass.

About the book

Mitzy the cat is invited by her mom to go sweetgrass picking for the very first time! As her mom passes the important Indigenous teaching down to the next generation, Mitzy learns that this beautiful plant is a traditional medicine that is used for ceremonies, healing, and art.

About the author/artist

Emily A. Isaac Johnson, is a Mi’kmaq woman from Listuguj Quebec who is a loving and devoted sister, daughter, and friend. She grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick where she is now an active member of the St. Mary’s First Nation community and works as a doula to help families before and after new babies are born. Emily is also a graduate of the Wabanaki Visual Arts Program at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design where she focused on beadwork.

This is an outdoor event so please dress according to the weather.

Farmers for Climate Solutions

Farmers for Climate Solutions (FCS) is a national farmer and rancher led coalition that advances pragmatic policy and program solutions to support farmers and ranchers in making the transition to low-emissions, high-resilience approaches to agriculture.

FaRM Program

The Farm Resilience Mentorship Program, or FaRM, is a free farmer-to-farmer learning hub offering online resources, workshops, on-farm field days, mentorship, and farmer networks to help scale-up adoption of Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) like Advanced Nitrogen Management, Cover Cropping, and Advanced Grazing Systems. FaRM is delivered in partnership with regional agricultural organizations and Indigenous partners across the country. 

This Request for Proposals (RFP) is to engage regional agricultural organizations and Indigenous partners in delivering the FaRM Program from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.

Honouring Indigenous Climate Leadership: A roundtable discussion showcasing Indigenous-led research 

To amplify and centre Indigenous voices at the cutting-edge of climate research and policy, the Canadian Climate Institute, in partnership with the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources, will host a roundtable discussion on June 20 with the authors of three new case studies in our Indigenous Perspectives series. These case studies showcase the work of Indigenous researchers, Knowledge Holders, water protectors, and community members and will be published on our webpage on Monday June 17, 2024.
