Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is an incredibly invasive woody-stemmed species that is an aggressive spreader and is a threat to forest biodiversity and even building foundations. You’ll learn how to identify Japnese knotweed and how to manage it as best as possible (unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to eradicate)!

New Date! Join the Nature Trust of New Brunswick and New Brunswick Invasive Species Council for an Invasive Species Removal Event at Hyla Park, Fredericton, NB.

Woodland angelica (Angelica sylvestris) and Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) are both invasive species that are aggressive forest invader that threaten biodiversity.

Managing invasive species is an important part of stewardship and at this event, you’ll learn how to identify woodland angelica and Japanese knotweed and how to best manage and remove them from the property.

Join us as we do some trail maintenance to the existing trail system on the nature preserve. We will be clearing the trail on this preserve of brush and debris. You can also choose to help us create a list of plants that we see along the way and participate in geocaching as we place our geocache policy in the caches!

ACORN will be hosting Farm Tours (and potlucks) in July and August all around the Atlantic Provinces.

Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii) is an invasive shrub that is commonly sold at greenhouses, and continues to be a great threat to natural forest biodiversity. You will learn how to identify and effectively remove Japanese barberry, which are skills that can be put into practice on nature preserves, or in your own backyard!

This trip will take us for a walk through a mature hardwood stand, where we’ll be paying close attention to species which serve as good indicators of site richness
