INTRODUCTION

​Rapid growth in data centre capacity and electricity consumption is a global phenomenon, with investment in data centres expected to reach more than $1tr by 2029. But this growth comes with complex environmental and social challenges, in terms of the demand for land, energy, water, nature conservation and the impact on local communities.

The purpose of this consultation is to allow interested people in Canada and Canadians to provide input on the draft 2026-2029 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy before it is considered by Cabinet and tabled in Parliament in November 2026.

Organophosphates (OPs) are a common class of neurotoxic pesticides. Exposure at even low doses can disrupt healthy development, particularly during susceptible windows such as pregnancy. In this EDC Strategies Partnership/Young EDC Scientists Showcase (YESS) webinar, Haleigh Cavalier, MPH, PhD and Eleanor Medley, MPH will discuss potential health outcomes and biological pathways associated with OP exposure during this vulnerable window using data from the New York University Children’s Health and Environment Study (NYU CHES), a NYC-based birth cohort.
