Electrifying Our School Buses Workshop

The Electrifying Our School Buses Workshop is a bilingual, virtual gathering organized for December 10, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, hosted by the Conservation Council of New Brunswick and New Brunswick Environmental Network. 

The event brings together educators, environmental advocates, and conservation organizations from across New Brunswick to learn about the transformative potential of Electric School Buses (ESBs) for schools, communities, and our environment. With the growing adoption of ESBs in Canada, this event aims to spotlight their environmental, health, and educational benefits. Participants will learn how ESBs can become a compelling part of educational curricula, sparking students’ interest in sustainability and environmental stewardship and its relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The event's agenda:

• Welcome and introductions, overview of event agenda.

• Presentation on Electric School Buses (ESBs) covering environmental, health, and educational benefits.

• Lesson demonstration showcasing how ESBs can be integrated into lesson plans.

• Lesson plan creation and networking in breakout groups (organized by teaching level).

• Speed Networking

• Closing remarks, a summary of key takeaways, and information on follow-up resources.

The evening will open with welcoming remarks, followed by an engaging presentation on the benefits of ESBs for student health, curriculum integration, and environmental impact. A lesson plan demonstration will then showcase practical strategies for weaving ESB topics into subjects like environmental science, math, and social studies, equipping educators with tools to engage students in sustainability initiatives effectively.

Participants will then join breakout groups by teaching level (elementary, middle, high school) to develop curriculum-aligned lesson plans focused on ESBs. Each group will access curriculum documents and templates, creating opportunities for networking and resource sharing among like-minded educators, ending with a speed networking portion to facilitate meaningful connections among educators. 

The event will wrap up with key takeaways, follow-up resources, and a survey, enabling participants to continue exploring ESBs and sustainability in education. Through this workshop, attendees will gain valuable insights into ESBs and be inspired to foster environmental awareness among students.
