Description: This volunteer training day is for anyone interested in independent field-based volunteering with the Nature Trust of New Brunswick. Our team will teach you how to use the Landscape Conservation app, which is an essential tool in stewarding our nature preserves, as well as trail maintenance procedures and water quality monitoring. After attending a volunteer training day, you will be equipped to volunteer independently and perform trail maintenance and general monitoring on our nature preserves!
Mapleton Acadian Forest Nature Preserve has hemlock groves, streams, an observation platform and more!
What to Expect:
- Hands-on learning opportunities
- Insights from seasoned experts
- Networking with fellow nature enthusiasts
- Opportunities to engage in meaningful stewardship activities
What to Bring:
- Weather-appropriate clothing, long pants, and hiking shoes/comfortable footwear
- Daypack
- Lunch, snacks, and water
- Sunscreen and bug spray
- Smartphone or tablet with Landscape Mobile App installed (Landscape Mobile App Training Video)
- Optional: loppers, saw, drill
Please note: The terrain at our nature preserves is often uneven and we may be working in areas that are off-trail and un-maintained. The terrain can be steep, and the trails are in the forest, meaning that rocks and tree roots are often underfoot.
