Webinar Series: The True Nature of Environmental Racism with Chúk Odenigbo
Environmentalists tend to be well-meaning, forward-thinking people who believe in preserving the planet for generations to come. Environmental organizations will advocate for reusable cups, circular economy, zero-waste, conservation and the protection of animals and their rights; but are often hesitant or completely invisible when it comes to advocating for social justice and the lives of Indigenous, Black, racialized and otherwise marginalized peoples.

This learning series seeks to examine the ways the fight against systemic racism/for social justice and environmentalism are linked. We will explore and contextualize our understanding of racism within environmentalism and the environmental movement in Canada, and seek to look for solutions and build the tools necessary to create just futures for our human and non-human kin.

Session 1: Introduction to Anti Racism
July 9, 2-3 PM AST

Session 2: Utopian Authoritarianism
July 11, 2-3 PM AST

Session 3: Holding Space

International Monarch Monitoring Blitz 2024 The International Monarch Monitoring Blitz is taking place this year from July 26-August 4, 2024. This is an annual event held across North America and is coordinated by a variety of partners across the continent. In Eastern Canada, this BioBlitz is coordinated by the Insectarium at Space for Life in Montreal through the project Mission Monarch.

During this survey period, community organizations and individuals alike are encouraged to look for Monarchs and Milkweed in their communities and backyards, and to report on their findings to Mission Monarch. Eggs, caterpillars, chrysalides, and adult butterflies can all be counted during this survey, along with various Milkweed species, including the two species native to New Brunswick: Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) and Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata).

This naturalist artist’s work points toward interconnectedness and aims to elevate human connection with nature.
