Exploration of the Dorn Ridge Unique Site

This trip will take us for a walk through a mature hardwood stand, where we’ll be paying close attention to species which serve as good indicators of site richness. This site, which sits on land managed by J.D. Irving Limited, was identified as an area of significant conservation value and is part of the company’s Unique Site program, which protects areas having remarkable ecological or cultural attributes. Our trip will hopefully culminate in the discovery of rare or uncommon forest plant species. If time allows, there may be a quick visit to a vernal pool (if still hydrated) and/ or a Butternut stand. There are lots of interesting things to be seen in this area. Areas of interest are quite accessible and located less than 250m off a woods road.
