Midday Meetup: Engaging Students and Communities in Air Quality Science
By New Hampshire Environmental EducatorsAir quality affects all of us—but how often do students get to explore it firsthand? In this Midday Meetup, we’ll hear from experts bringing air quality science to life across New Hampshire. Brian Fitzgerald, Kathleen Simmons, and Sarah-Ellen Calise will each share what their organizations are currently working on—from real-time monitoring and data visualization to outreach and citizen science initiatives.
After brief introductions, we’ll open up a conversation about engaging more educators and students—especially high schoolers—in meaningful learning around air quality, climate action, and youth-led environmental projects. Come ready to connect, share ideas, and spark new collaborations for cleaner air and healthier communities.
Guest Speakers:
- Brian Fitzgerald, Director of Education, Mount Washington Observatory
- Kathleen Simmons, Senior Air Quality Scientist, NH Department of Environmental Services
- Sarah-Ellen Calise, Air Quality Analyst, NH Department of Environmental Services
About Midday Meetups:
Midday Meetups are NHEE’s new monthly virtual series, inspired by our friends at the Rhode Island Environmental Education Association (RIEEA) and their popular Lunch & Learns. NHEE’s Midday Meetups are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 12:00–1:00 PM, the series alternates between open office hours for connection and idea sharing, and structured sessions with guest speakers on timely topics—from curriculum connections to community collaborations to equity in education.
