Nest Box Cleaning Outing – Riverfront Trail & Wilson’s Marsh

Nest Box Cleaning Outing – Riverfront Trail & Wilson’s Marsh
By Nature Moncton

  • Moncton, NB
  • April 4, 2026 at 1 PM (Poor weather date: April 11 at 1 PM)
  • Leaders: Fred Dube & Fred Richards

Join Nature Moncton volunteers as we help prepare for the nesting season by inspecting and cleaning nest boxes along the Riverfront Trail and at Wilson’s Marsh. This annual activity helps ensure the boxes are ready for birds returning to breed in the spring.

Participants will be divided into two work groups:

Riverfront Trail
  • Press Club parking lot, 160 Assomption Blvd, Moncton
  • This group will walk along the well-maintained Riverfront Trail to check and clean the nest boxes installed along the route.

Wilson’s Marsh

  • Corner of Dutchill Drive and Marina Drive, Moncton
  • Nest boxes were installed here last fall and may be empty but still need to be checked. We can enjoy some birding at the same time. The terrain is mostly level grass and crushed stone, with one short hill at the beginning of the trail.
Required:

Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Waterproof footwear is recommended for those assisting directly with nest box cleaning.

Registration required:

  • [email protected] Please register in advance so we can coordinate the two work groups and meeting locations.

After the outing, anyone interested is welcome to join us at Café Codiac (666 St-George Blvd, Moncton) for a warm drink or snack and some bird-friendly conversation. This portion is entirely optional and at each participant’s own cost.

This is a great opportunity to help our local birds while enjoying a spring walk outdoors!
