The Tipping Point: When Climate Adaptation Becomes Essential

This bilingual event, featuring live interpretation, will be of interest to planners, community staff, local non-governmental organizations, health advocates, representatives of provincial and municipal governments, industry, academics and citizens who wish to contribute to the development of a resilient New Brunswick.

This year’s conference will look at when adaptation becomes essential to addressing the climate issues our communities are facing. When do we have no choice but to determine how to become resilient in the face of heat waves, drought, rising seas, flooding, food insecurity, and more? What are the health effects on the people?

Event Date Nov-05-2026 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Cut off date Oct-29-2026
Individual Price General: $80, NBEN Member, Associate or Indigenous Group: $70, Senior or Student: $60

Guided Bus Tour: Nature-Based Sites & Regenerative Hydrology Sites

This guided bus tour of several Nature-based and Regenerative Hydroolgy sites in Edmundston is a collaboration between CCNB Innov, the City of Edmundston, and the New Brunswick Environmental Network.

Non-profit environmental organizations (the Madawaska River Management Society (SARM) and the Northwest Rural Planning Committee (NWRPC), research and knowledge-transfer institutions (the Eastern Canada Soil and Water Conservation Center, the University of Moncton, Edmundston Campus, and CCNB INNOV), and the City of Edmundston have been engaged for nearly two decades in efforts to acquire and transfer knowledge, as well as in planning initiatives to maintain drinking water quality in the region’s main designated watershed.

More recently, the issue of stormwater management and flood risk in the downstream areas of the watersheds has emerged as a priority. Since the mid-2010s, various projects have been underway at the site, neighborhood, and watershed levels. At the same time, there is a growing awareness of both past mistakes in urban planning and land use, as well as the need to explore alternative approaches and adopt complementary strategies.

As part of a tour of several sites, accompanied by professionals from diverse backgrounds, this event will:

  • highlight the region’s key issues and challenges;
  • outline the initiative that has been launched, as well as the development of regional scientific, technical, and operational capacity;
  • provide an overview of the first developments and ongoing projects.

Long neglected in the face of challenges, damage, and costs, minds are now opening up to new perspectives and a shift in practices that incorporate nature-based solutions and the paradigm of regenerative hydrology.

This free event has a limit of 25 participants: First come, first served.

Financial support for this event is provided by the World Wildlife Fund-Canada/Wawanesa and Environment and Climate Change Canada
