Eco-Anxiety Workshop (Bilingual)

Eco-Anxiety Workshop (Bilingual)

Young people have a unique positionality in relation to the mental and emotional dimensions of climate change: they have contributed the least to the crisis, they are and will be disproportionately impacted, and they have limited opportunities and invaluable perspectives for influencing action. Evidence increasingly illustrates that young people are experiencing climate distress and anxiety. In this workshop, Dr. Lindsay Galway will share findings from the first national survey on climate anxiety among young people (aged 16 -25) in Canada. She will also share insights from qualitative interviews from across the country that shed light on lived experiences. Finally, workshop participants will engage in groups discussions about the implications of the research and their own personal and professional  experiences.

Join us on Thursday, November 10th from 1:30-3:10 pm online on the Zoom platform to network and discuss eco-anxiety in New Brunswick and how we might address it
. Registration fee: $15.

Dr. Lindsay Galway is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Lakehead University and Canada Research Chair in Social-Ecological Health. Her work spans the social, natural, and health sciences and aims to bring together multiple perspectives in order to comprehensively understand, and collaboratively address, complex social-ecological challenges, with a focus on climate change.

Using an interdisciplinary, applied, and community-engaged approach, her current research activities focus on three core areas:

  • Investigating the impacts of climatic and environmental change on health and wellbeing;
  • Using place-based approaches to respond to, and address, climatic and environmental change in ways that promote sustainability, health, and social justice; and
  • Supporting integration, interdisciplinarity, and intersectoral action.

She is also a climate activist and a mother of three young children. She finds inspiration from her children, her students, and our great Lake Superior.
