Water (Fresh)

On May 13, 2020, Environment and Climate Change Canada announced its intention of creating a new Canada Water Agency to work together with the provinces, territories, Indigenous communities, local authorities, scientists and others to find the best ways to keep our water safe, clean, and well managed. The public is invited to provide comments and thoughts via the Placespeak platform. The deadline for comment is May 31, 2021.

On December 22, 2017 the government released its Water Strategy for New Brunswick and Recommendations for Enhanced Watershed Management in New Brunswick from the Watershed Management Working Group. Both documents are available under Water Protection, Provincial Policy and Legislation, February 2002-present.

On October 6, 2017, the department of Environment and Local Government released a draft water strategy for comments. The draft strategy is available below under Water Protection, Provincial Policy and Legislation, February 2002-present .

In March 2016, the provincial government invited the public, stakeholders, and First Nations to participate in a discussion about water, how it’s managed and protected, today and for years to come. A summary of what was heard during the comment period is now available on the government website.
