Let’s dig for Bank Swallows: creating a living shoreline to protect the coast Come join the NBEN, Nature NB, Birds Canada, and restoration experts from Helping Nature Heal to learn about living shorelines and take part in a hands-on volunteer effort to restore the coast at Youghall Beach in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Help plant trees and shrubs and build other natural erosion protection measures that will work to restore the living shoreline. These measures not only provide protection against storm surges, flooding, and erosion, but also create an important habitat for the endangered Bank Swallow species. This living shoreline restoration is being completed before the Bank Swallows migrate back to New Brunswick for the spring season to support the health of their population.
