Grand Opening Of The Keiko & Errol Nature Preserve At Ross Island

Let’s celebrate together!

We are overjoyed to announce the official grand opening of the Keiko & Errol Nature Preserve at Ross Island will be held on Saturday, July 6! Nature Trust supporters will no doubt remember the massive fundraising effort we undertook to establish this 372.9-hectare sanctuary of ecologically-significant wetlands and coastal forest.

Thanks in no small part to the generous donations of so many New Brunswickers (thank you again if that's you!), this island and its rocky shores, which act as a nursery for fish and crustaceans, and the salt marshes, serving as essential spawning grounds and stopover sites for migratory birds, is forever protected.

Let's celebrate that together! Full details are below. Please RSVP by July 3 to Tessa Snook at and indicate if you will attend both the ribbon-cutting and reception portions of the event!

Date: Saturday, July 6, 2024

Time: 11:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Where: Keiko & Errol Nature Preserve at Ross Island (access via Shore Road)
& The Gathering Place (Castalia Marsh Retreat, (11 Bancroft Point Rd, Grand Manan)

What: We’re hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and guided beach stroll on Ross Island from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception and light lunch refreshments at Castalia Marsh Retreat from  1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Important ferry times: Take the 9:30 a.m. Blacks Harbour ferry to the island; if leaving the island immediately after the ceremony, take the 5:30 p.m. ferry back to Blacks Harbour.

We hope you can join us for a special day exploring tidal pools, walking a little slice of this preserve's 8.9-kilometre trail, and meeting with folks from across New Brunswick who helped make this preserve a reality.
