World Migratory Bird Day
Saturday 08 May 2021 -  - Saturday 08 May 2021
bird day

Birds have always played an important role in our lives. Humans have relied on birds for inspiration, joy, food and ecological services like pest control and seed dispersal throughout our existence. We cannot forget how birds helped us connect with nature, and each other, during a time when Canadians across the country were feeling the most isolated. However, despite the good that they do for us, our actions are ultimately causing them to disappear.

This year, on World Migratory Bird Day (Bird Day) - May 8th 2021, we have an opportunity to show how important birds are to us and to raise our voices for their survival. . Join thousands of people around the world to celebrate the birds as they return from their long migrations! Get together within our communities (safely!) to reflect on the many social, ecological, economic and health benefits that healthy bird populations provide us with. We can choose to make a stand! Will you join us?

This year’s Bird Day theme is “Sing, Fly, Soar - Like A Bird'', and with the right choices we can help our birds to sing, fly and soar as loud and high as they can! Bird Day is a great opportunity to bring your community together (following local safety guidelines!) to admire birds and consider how we can make the necessary changes in our cities and towns to be bird friendly. Please register your Bird Day event with us on this form. We will list your event on our bird day website to help raise awareness about your event. You will be entered into a draw for prizes, so don’t miss this opportunity!

You can also help us tell our Members of Parliament that Canadians are deeply concerned by our declining bird populations and ask them to take action by sharing our petition. Help us demand that birds need better!

Nature Canada is here to help support celebrating Bird Day in other ways. Check out the bird day website for the fun, educational activities and resources we have developed to help you celebrate, whether you are celebrating safely outdoors or from the comfort of your own homes.

Now is the time to celebrate birds for all that they do for us. And, what better way to do so than by bringing our communities together on Bird Day. We look forward to celebrating with you!
