The Health co-benefits of Low Carbon and Natural Infrastructure

This three-day workshop series, hosted on three consecutive afternoons from Monday January 25th to Wednesday January 27th, focuses on how to better value and incorporate the health benefits of low-carbon and natural infrastructure projects into decision-making. By bringing together key stakeholders, we will discuss the practical benefits and challenges of assessing health benefits at a project scale. Smart Prosperity will also present research findings from our ongoing work on valuing health co-benefits associated with low-carbon and green infrastructure projects and nature-based approaches.

Workshop objectives:
  • Share findings of research to date around health co-benefits surround low-carbon infrastructure and nature-based solutions;
  • Discuss barriers to integrating these health benefits into decision-making for local/municipal/regional stakeholders;
  • Bring together stakeholders from public health/health sector, and project developers and advocates, to discuss practical challenges and potential solutions.

Day 1: 1pm - 3pm EST on Monday, January 25th
Setting the stage for challenges and opportunities accounting for Health Co-Benefits
  • Introduction to project, findings to date, engagement on common issues presented by examining health co-benefits in low-carbon infrastructure and natural infrastructure context.

Day 2: 1pm - 4pm EST on Tuesday, January 26th
Digging in on Low Carbon Infrastructure (LCI)
  • Overview of LCI Healthy Air Co-Benefits Framework (A guide to help stakeholders conduct assessments of how reductions in air pollution occurring as a result of a low-carbon infrastructure project benefit human health in Canadian communities)
  • Breakout sessions
  • Synthesis session
