Invasive Species Removal, Butternut Island Nature Preserve

Join our staff on a trip to the Butternut Island Nature Preserve and help us remove the invasive Japanese Knotweed to protect the native wildlife that inhabits this preserve. The stewardship pillar of our organization focuses on the maintenance and care of our preserves and we need your help to maintain the ecological integrity of this protected area.

Space is limited, so please register in advance by visiting:
What to Bring:
- Closed toed shoes or hiking boots;
- Work gloves
- Appropriate clothing for the weather;
- Water and snacks;
- Sunscreen and DEET free insect repellent;
- Tools for invasive removal (machete, loppers) (optional).

The Butternut Island Nature Preserve consists of 6 acres and is found on the Nashwaak River, just above Taymouth. This preserve features a sizeable stand of endangered Butternut trees and is known to provide habitat for certain species at risk.
