National Energy Board

On June 20, 2016, the Government of Canada launched a review of environmental and regulatory processes, including modernizing the National Energy Board. The public was invited to make comments to the Expert Panel. On May 15, 2017, the Expert Panel on the Modernization of the National Energy Board released its report with recommendations and advice. The Expert Panel accepted comments on the report until June 14, 2017. Find out more here.

Energy East Pipeline

The National Energy Board is currently undertaking a review of the Energy East Pipeline Project. Beginning on August 8, 2016, in Saint John, New Brunswick, the Board offerred panel sessions for registered intervenors in 10 communities along the pipeline route. All canadians are invited to comment on the Energy East Pipeline via their online survey. For more information and to fill out the survey, click here.

The National Energy Board introduced new Damage Prevention Regulations and held comment periods from April 29th to September 30th, 2016, for input on the engagement strategies they should use to reach stakeholders about these new regulations. The results have been analysed and are now available on their website. For more information, click here.

Mactaquac Hydroelectric Generating Station

Mactaquac Hydroelectric Generating Station is expected to reach the end of its service life in 2030. NB Power has identified three possible options for the station, each with broad implications for people and the environment. In 2015-16, New Brunswickers were invited to help shape the future of the station through an online survey, open house events, presentations, workshops, community meetings, and commenting on draft reports. Shale Gas

In May 2016, the provincial government announced an indefinite moratorium on hydraulic fracturing.
