Coleman Frog filmed for documentary

'I want to believe in it' Fredericton's most famous amphibian is set to make waves across the pond.

A British documentary crew has been lugging equipment up the stairs at the York Sunbury Museum to film the legendary Coleman frog, a huge specimen that allegedly lived in Kilarney Lake more than 100 years ago.

British Director Rupert Barrington puzzling over Coleman Frog

The crew is making a film about giant amphibians for the Animal Planet channel. It has travelled all over the world in search of big frogs and salamanders.

Director Rupert Barrington says the Coleman frog is impressive but he's not sure he believes the legend.

"I kind of want to believe in it. I find it hard to believe looking at this because of the texture. It looks very painted but I don't know, I'm not willing to say no but I certainly can't say yes, it's real."

The film is slated to be on TV next fall. Just in case you're curious, the Coleman Frog is not the biggest amphibian in the world. The Japanese salamander wins that prize. It's five feet long and weighs about 70 pounds.
